, the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for music, is visiting ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ University on Feb. 2.
As part of the university’s Grace Goudy Distinguished Artists Series (DAS), which draws renowned musicians to interact and perform with students in Salem, Shaw is hosting a public concert that includes a world premiere work at 7:30 p.m. in Hudson Hall.
Shaw is a composer, singer, violinist and producer based in New York. She’s won two Grammy Awards for contemporary composition and nominated for a third that will be announced in April. At age 30, she won the Pulitzer Prize in 2013 for her composition, “Partita for 8 Voices.”
Joined by several ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ student and faculty musicians — as well as guest artists The Delgani String Quartet, cellist Valdine Mishkin and The Salem String Quartet — the concert will include “To the hands (cantata),” “Gustave Le Grey” and “Cant voi l'aube,” among other works. The world premiere was commissioned by the DAS and a contemporary music series at ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ for Zeller Chair in Dramatic Vocal Arts Katherine Skovira.
Shaw’s visit marks the second performance for the 2021-22 DAS season. The last one will feature Bryan Pezzone and Francois Houle in April.
