1. What will happen to Academy programs for the remainder of this (2015-16) school year?

Previously scheduled programs will continue as planned and all current Academy students will remain part of the Academy. The Academy will remain open until June 14, 2016 - the end of the Salem Keizer school year.

David Douglass, dean of campus life, will continue to oversee Academy operations until May 27. At that time, Professor Emily Drew will take over as the Academy’s acting operations director until the new executive director is hired and settled at ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ.


2. What’s happening with the Academy’s Executive Director?

A steering committee, including ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ faculty and staff members, has met and is working to update the position description for the executive director and search for candidates.


3. How will the program change next year?

ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Academy’s programs will be very similar to last year, at least for the fall semester. It is the expectation that the new Executive Director, when hired, will have the opportunity to take a comprehensive review of the program. Rest assured, ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Academy students and families will be part of the process to make ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Academy a stronger program for the students it serves.


4. Is the Summer Program still happening?

Yes. A modified version of the summer program took place in late June/early July. The program was coordinated by Rebecca Moore and professor Emily Drew. The program did not include a residential component.


5. Will my child be a part of ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Academy next year?

All ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Academy and Project Promise students are invited back to the Academy for the 2016-17 school year.


6. Has ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ University’s commitment to Academy students changed?

ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ University remains fully committed to ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Academy, and is working with community leaders and the Salem-Keizer School District to ensure the program meets the needs of students and families. All of the Academy’s programs are designed to provide support for students to ensure their success before and during college.

The University’s commitment to meet the full financial need of ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Academy students who enroll at ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ is unchanged.


7. Will new students be admitted to the Academy this year?

All existing ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Academy students (current 8-11th graders) will be a part of ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ Academy for the 2016-17 academic year. No new students will be admitted to the Academy until the new executive director is hired and has an opportunity to develop a strategic plan for the program.
