Our second concert brings Pulitzer Award winning composer Caroline Shaw to our campus for a small residency starting January 31, with the concluding concert on February 2, 2022.
We are both fortunate and proud to announce that in collaboration with New Music at ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ, we will present a world premiere by the composer, commissioned for our Zeller Chair in Dramatic Vocal Arts, Katherine Skovira. The name of the commission is “Solitaire”, drawn from a book of poems written by a young artist residing in Portland, Rūta Kuzmickas.
The program surrounding the world premiere will involve many musicians: students, faculty, artist associates, and guest artists, from solo unaccompanied works to string quartet and ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ choirs.
A small residency by Shaw and the ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ University music students will round out with a presentation on Tuesday, Feb. 1st in Hudson Hall, 11:30am. The opportunity for one of the world's great composers to work with our students, in addition to composing for our faculty and community, is reason to celebrate.
