World Engagement (16 credits)

The World Engagement component ensures that students interact with diverse ideas, perspectives, and/or experiences representative of global cultures and societies as part of their course of study. World Engagement components consist of a specified language requirement and eight credits in World Engagement electives.

  1. Non-English Language (NEL) (8 credits) --
    • In order to satisfy ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ University’s non-English language requirement, students must do one of the following:
      1. Complete the second semester (L132) or higher of one of ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ University’s non-English language courses with a minimum grade of C-
      2. Place into a 200-level language course and pass an additional proficiency examination in that language administered on campus by ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ University faculty
      3. Successfully complete the first year or higher of college non-English language study in one language at another college or university
      4. Achieve a minimum score of 4 on the AP language exam
      5. Achieve a minimum score of 5 on the higher level International Baccalaureate language exam
      6. Present evidence of a primary language other than English
  2.  World Engagement Electives -- In addition to meeting the NEL requirement, students must earn at least 8 additional credits with a minimum grade of C- from some combination of the following WE electives*:
    1. NEL study beyond the 132-level
    2. Study Abroad
    3. Community-Engaged Learning (CEL)
    4. Culture and Values (CV)

Classes used to fulfill the Liberal Arts distribution may not be double-counted to fulfill World Engagement, and vice versa.
